Richmond’s Art Held Hostage won Best Zombie Movie for “Zombthology” at the 4th Annual Kentucky Fright Night Film Festival in Louisville. The anthology film was directed by Elias Dancey (Richmond), Chris Kiros (Alexandria) and Robert Elkins (Petersburg). Victor M A Nash (Richmond) worked as DP, composer and sound designer.
Nick Kleczewski, editor at Park Group saw his editing work on “Song Sung Blue” win the Grand Jury and Audience award at SlamDance 2008.

Eric Futterman is getting politically involved with a piece he produced and uploaded on YouTube.
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in September with a screening of “Nosotros y el Jazz,” a 2004 documentary by Cuban director Gloria Rolando. It will be introduced by Gilberto Martinez Gomez, (coproducer) and there will be a reception featuring Richmond’s Kevin Davis and Ban Caribe will follow the screening. 9/6, 6:30 pm, $5.

I went to the VPA picnic Saturday. A healthy group of folks enjoyed barbecue in the middle of the “John Adams” backlot (which is very cool). I was a slug and didn’t take any pix...you shoulda been there.
The winners of this year’s local 48 Hour Film Project are listed on the website. There are too many awards to list them, but “God-Given Talent” by the Plaid Connection won Best Film.
Circuit City has been keeping their commercial production locally-based. Their currently-airing Back to School campaign features R&B superstar Rihanna and was produced with Fiat Lux. Meanwhile, under the radar is a viral spot that was shot at UR and VCU with local cast & talent. Co-produced and directed by Todd Hervey at Fuel and Scott Lage from Circuit City.

Two locals were included among the 23 Emmy nominations that “John Adams” received: David Crank (with Gemma Jackson, Christina Moore, Kathy Lucas & Sarah Whittle) for Outstanding Art Direction For A Miniseries Or A Movie and Jay Meagher (with Mike Minkler & Bob Beemer) for Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Miniseries Or A Movie.
DP Stephen Lyons has been working for the past 2 months in NYC on the “Food Detectives” for the Food Network. Ted Allen (“Queer Eye” and “Iron Chef”) hosts the show, which starts airing 9pm, 7/29.
MovieMaker Magazine is featuring Virginia in an upcoming edition. In 50 words or less, write what inspires you about Virginia and email it with “Virginia” in the subject line by 7/30.
HGTV’s real estate reality series “Property Virgins” is coming to Richmond and they’re looking for a local lighting technician & local sound mixer for the August shoot. Resumes to Sara.
Entries are being received for the 3rd annual Redemptive Film Festival, which revolves around themes that depict the redemptive purposes of God. Deadline is 8/18. The Festival is held 10/16-18.
